Contributor Terms

Last updated: 15 July 2026

1. Ownership & Rights

By uploading content to Virtue, you confirm that:

  • You created the content yourself, or you have all necessary rights and permissions to upload, share, and license it through the platform.
  • Uploading the content does not infringe the rights of any third party.

You retain ownership of your content at all times. Uploading to Virtue does not transfer copyright or exclusive control to us.

2. Authenticity & AI Content

Virtue exists to document real-world events and support credible animal advocacy.

For that reason, content that is wholly or substantially generated using artificial intelligence is not permitted on the platform. This includes AI-generated images, AI-generated video, or footage that materially alters or fabricates events, people, animals, or locations.

Basic editing such as colour correction, cropping, stabilisation, noise reduction, or similar post-production is permitted, provided it does not misrepresent what actually occurred.

By uploading content, you confirm that it accurately represents genuine real-world events and has not been materially altered in a way that could mislead viewers.

Maintaining an archive of authentic, real-world footage is fundamental to Virtue's mission and helps ensure users can trust the accuracy and integrity of the content they discover.

3. Licence to Virtue

By uploading content, you grant Virtue a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to:

  • Host, store, reproduce, organise, and display your content.
  • Make your content available to users through the platform.
  • Use your content to operate, improve, and promote Virtue and its mission.

This includes, but is not limited to, featuring your content on the website, social media, newsletters, outreach materials, promotional graphics, and campaigns.

Because this licence is non-exclusive, you remain free to use your content yourself, license it elsewhere, or make it available through other platforms.

4. Licence to Platform Users

By uploading content, you also grant users of Virtue a non-exclusive licence to use your content in accordance with the platform's user terms and any restrictions or permissions shown alongside the content.

This licence does not transfer ownership or exclusive rights and does not automatically permit unrestricted commercial use.

5. Responsibility for Your Content

You are responsible for everything you upload.

You confirm that your content complies with applicable laws and does not infringe copyright, privacy, publicity, data protection, or any other legal rights.

6. People Featured in Footage

If your content contains identifiable individuals, you confirm that you have the legal right to upload and share the footage and that doing so complies with applicable privacy and data protection laws.

Where releases or permissions are legally required, you are responsible for obtaining them.

7. Accuracy of Content

Please describe your content honestly and accurately.

Titles, descriptions, keywords, locations, and other metadata should not be misleading or intentionally exaggerated.

Where footage contains graphic, distressing, or otherwise sensitive material, please identify this where possible so users can make informed decisions.

8. Prohibited Content

You must not upload content that:

  • Infringes copyright or other legal rights.
  • Contains knowingly false or misleading information about events.
  • Is intended to harass, threaten, intimidate, or defame individuals or organisations.
  • Contains malicious software or material intended to disrupt the platform.
  • Is otherwise unlawful.

9. Commercial Use

Virtue does not license content for commercial use.

If someone wishes to use your content commercially, their enquiry will be forwarded directly to you. Any commercial licence or agreement is solely between you and the requesting party.

10. Removal of Content

You may request the removal of your content from Virtue at any time.

We also reserve the right to remove, restrict, or refuse any content at our discretion where we believe it raises legal, ethical, safety, security, or trust concerns, or otherwise conflicts with the purpose of the platform.

Where practical, we will make reasonable efforts to remove content promptly. However, copies already downloaded or used by others may remain beyond our control.

11. Liability

Users are responsible for ensuring they have the appropriate rights and permissions for their intended use of any downloaded content.

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Virtue is not responsible for how content is used by third parties after it has been accessed through the platform.

12. Purpose of the Platform

Virtue exists to support the animal advocacy movement by making authentic footage easier to discover and share.

We ask contributors to upload content responsibly, accurately, and in a way that supports constructive, ethical, and lawful use.

13. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Contributor Terms from time to time. Continued use of the platform after updated terms have been published constitutes acceptance of those changes.
